A Duskwight hailing from the backwoods of the Black Shroud, Mischa left home and became an adventurer in order to earn fortune and fame. Little did he know that he was going to get a LOT more than he signed up for.
Mishca as he was in ARR
Mischa's family lives in a cave and in poverty, both by choice. While his parents rebuked claims that they had ties to a bandit/poacher group, it had always been obvious to Mischa that they were lying. By the time he reached his late teens and had interacted enough with Gridanian society, he realized that his parents weren't poor due to circumstances, and that they lived in squalor because they believed in old ideals. They ultimately refused to engage with Gridanians, when they could've lived better lives. (This is a somewhat naiive perception, though.)
Frustrated and betrayed, Mischa saved a few coin from his trades with Gridanians until he had enough to purchase some adventuring gear. When his growth spurt had finished and his savings were enough, he left home with nary a goodbye except to his sibling, Victoria, who he got along with fine.
Mischa during ARR Patches
After registering at Gridania's adventurer guild, one thing led to another, and he found himself a Scion of the Seventh Dawn. Since the Scions offered regular pay and it'd answer questions about the strange visions he was having, he thought it was a good idea. But then he woke up one day and realized he was slaying gods, fighting Garleans, and running all over Eorzea. But he was also becoming a hero, which felt amazing after a childhood of emotional neglect, poverty, and being unable to do anything about it.
Throughout ARR, he had an awkward fling with Thancred. He became friendly with Minfilia and they slept together a couple of times. Generally, Mischa was fairly closed off from others. He was polite to those above him, but didn't make any close friends during this time.
During Crystal Tower, he hit it off really well with G'raha since they were about the same age with similar adventuring spirits. Mischa developed a crush on him and in a rare bout of shyness, didn't act on it since he percieved G'raha as not being interested in a relationship and that he was too pre-occupied with the Allagan revelations. He also felt less self-confident since G'raha was a scholar with expertise in a field, while Mischa was uneducated and could barely read. He assumed that Gr'aha viewed him as a friend, but not worth pursing. He was wrong, of course; G'raha was smitten but too nervous to say anything.
In the end, Gr'aha enclosed himself in the Tower while being both regretful and glad that he didn't approach Mischa, who was left outside with a broken heart when he finally realized that the Tower would take years or centuries to re-open.
By this point, Mischa was known as a hero, the Warrior of Light, and had several primals under his belt. He couldn't stand Alphinaud, who was several years younger, educated, and clearly wealthier. Alphinaud had everything that Mischa never had, and now he was a commander, of all things. But he needed a distraction after the Tower and loss of G'raha, so he agreed to join the Crystal Braves with nary a complaint.
As the patch events go on, Mischa finds unexpected comfort in Haucherfant, who really shouldn't have been someone that Mischa would catch feelings for. Haucherfant was another Elezen from an uppity society, but was down to earth and stubbornly cheerful. He managed to pierce Mischa's shell—the constant compliments from Haucherfant also helped—and Mischa had to eventually concede and accept that they were more than just sexual partners. It was the first time his emotional needs were being met, and he couldn't help but be addicted to it.
